Organised by regional development group MITEZ the "North Queensland : The Region of Diverse Opportunity" forum at the Civic Centre on Monday and Tuesday June 28-29 brings together business and political leaders to discuss economic opportunities in the region.
New MITEZ CEO Catherine Robson said the forum would discuss the future of energy in North Queensland as well as agricultural opportunities.
"On the Monday we have a panel discussion and Q & A on the future of energy in North Queensland and on the Tuesday we have a session on broadacre cropping in North Queensland," Ms Robson said.
"We've also got Claudia Brumme-Smith the new CEO of Townsville Enterprise. Claudia comes out of the Port of Townsville and she has a really good grasp of supply chains, everything comes across the zone and into the port."
Other speakers include federal LNP senator Susan McDonald and Labor state MP Les Walker, while Ian McLeod, director of Smart Energy, John and Joseph O'Brien from Copperstring will be at the future of energy discussion.
Julie Whitcombe, GM Strategy at government-owned CleanCo and Garth Heron, Head of Development, at renewable energy firm Neoen will also be on the panel.
Lucas Findley the managing director of Findley Farms will talk about their cropping developments at Etta Plains near Julia Creek.
Ms Robson said the MITEZ committee would begin a strategic planning session on completion of the forum.
"We will look at what platforms we want to run on and what areas we want to focus on," she said.
"With the excellent funding announcements relating to renewable energy in Queensland, that will be something we will really look at."
