Queensland Metals already employs 186 apprentices across its North Queensland operations and is looking for new recruits. The program supports a variety of trade disciplines including electrical, diesel fitting, boiler making, fitting/welding, auto-electrical, motor mechanic and radio technician roles.
Queensland Metals Human Resources Group Manager Clint Milner said the comprehensive four-year program provided apprentices with the skills to build a successful career in their chosen trade.
"Apprentices have the opportunity to rotate across different areas of the business from mining to processing and smelting, allowing them to gain broader exposure to our operations and advance their knowledge and skills," Mr Milner said.
"Tradespeople play a critical role in our day-to-day operations at Queensland Metals, and it is extremely rewarding to welcome so many enthusiastic apprentices each year, especially when they come from the north west region and we can assist in developing our local talent."
Mount Isa resident and fourth-year Diesel Fitter Apprentice, Robbie Pittis, says the opportunities with a Queensland Metals apprenticeship were endless.
"My father completed his apprenticeship with Queensland Metals 40 years ago, and now I am able to follow in his footsteps," Mr Pittis said.
"With this being the last year of my apprenticeship, I am looking forward to securing a permanent Diesel Fitter trade position."
Mount Isa second-year Electrical Apprentice, Tina Bishop, says she signed up for the Apprenticeship Program to learn new skills and create a better future for her family.
"I am constantly meeting new and experienced professionals and being exposed to different areas of the operations on a regular basis," Ms Bishop said.
The Queensland Metals Apprenticeship Program combines continuous training courses at TAFE North Queensland, and onsite experience in the apprentices' relevant operational teams.
People are welcome to join an information session on the 2022 Queensland Metals Apprenticeship Program intake at 7pm Wednesday, 30 June 30 at the John Middlin Centre in Mount Isa.
Applications for Queensland Metals 2022 Apprenticeship Program will open July 5 and close August 8.
