Council were forced to temporarily close the facility for several hours on Thursday after a bus tour group was erroneously believed to have come from a New South Wales hotspot.
Detective Senior Sergeant Jeff Magnus, the disaster management support officer for the Mount Isa District, said they received information that two busloads of tourists staying in Karumba had originated in New South Wales, possibly from the hotspots listed on the Queensland Health website.
"As a precautionary measure with the help of Karumba police we isolated them temporarily," he told ABC on Friday morning.
The tourists had been to the Barra Centre which was closed and the tourists were asked about their recent travel movements but none of the tourists had been recently in any of the hotspots.
They had travelled from Cairns to Karumba via Cobbold Gorge.
Snr Sgt Magnus said their details had been forwarded to the public health unit in Townsville as a precautionary measure.
"Definitely no apologies how it was done, it was quite a good exercise for Queensland Health and Police and it worked out quite well," he said.
"Council apologies for any inconvenience caused with the Lock Down today and trusts that people understand the actions taken by Council with the closure," Carpentaria Shire Council said.
