Given there was no Stockman's Challenge in 2020, it continues Templeton's record of having won the Challenge every third year.
This year the Kingaroy man won aboard Tim O'Dwyer's horse Royalle Jeopardy and the pair had plenty of work to do to score a come from behind victory.
Templeton and Royalle Jeopardy entered the final in last position and after the Dry Work final they climbed to 7th spot.
Their Wet Work saw them win by the narrowest of margins.
Their total of 324.75 was just 0.5 of a point ahead of Joshua Smith on Kneipps Reeva (324.25), who was an even smaller margin - 0.25 - ahead of Leah Reed on Harold's Last Melody in third on 324.0.
Morgan Webb took out fourth and fifth on Spin That Style (321) and Katniss (319) respectively.
Templeton also won the first ever Ron Wall Memorial Derby Challenge on the horse Al Capone.
Will Durkin won the Memorial Open Draft on Youngstar Marnie's Glamour.
Jay Hall took home the Northern Stock Water Jim Magoffin Memorial Ladies Draft on Eltorrio.
Melissa Salmond won the AJ McDonald Memorial Encouragement Challenge.
Clayton Titmus won the Juvenile Draft on Lethal Jazzalena.
Jaimee Mills won the junior draft on Proud Duck.
Bella Southern won the junior challenge on Batman.
