Cloncurry Shire Council
Cloncurry Council passed its annual budget in July and approved a Material Change of Use for rural workers accommodation at Corella Park Road.
Council also registered its in-principle support for hosting a Variety Club Bash in Cloncurry on August 31. This year's bash goes from Winton to Yeppoon via Birdsville.
Boulia Shire Council
Boulia Shire Council handed down its 2021-22 budget. The residential house block sewerage charge will be $482 a year while the vacant land sewerage charge will be $194 a year. Residential house blocks water service charge is $683 a year while the vacant land water service charge is $493. Council's cleansing charge for the removal of refuse is $379 a year.
In its regular July meeting Council approved the purchase of the land at 56 Pituri Street, Boulia for the future construction of staff accommodation.
Burke Shire Council
Burketown is seeing first hand the boom in outback tourism with Council noting the Tourist Information Centre recorded a "staggering" 936 visitors in June which is almost double tourist numbers from 2018.
Council submitted an application through the Saluting their service commemorative Grants Program for flag poles to be installed at the Gregory Cenotaph and an application to Building Better Regions Funding for $20k to contribute to the Morning Glory Festival 2021 (Sep 29 - Oct 1).
Council renominated Melbourne Cup Day - Tuesday 1 November 2022 - as the Special Holiday date for the Burke Shire Local Government Area.
Carpentaria Shire Council
Mayor Jack Bawden told the meeting the June NWQROC meeting was held virtually with discussions on the Independent Review of North West Hospital and Health Service and its future,the North West Priority Roads Network, 2021 Financial Assistance Grant Methodology Review and Local Government sustainability.Cr Bawden also informed the next NWQROC meeting will be held September 9-10 at Karumba and the National Resilience and Recovery group will be in attendance.
Qld Ag Minister Mark Furner will visit Karumba for the Outback by the Sea Festival (Sep 24-26). There will be a tour of Hatchery and Barramundi Discovery Centre, an afternoon boat tour and the official opening of the Festival on Saturday night.
Council approved the QRA replacement of flood cameras at Flinders River (89A - Burke Development Road), Walkers Creek (Burke Development Road), Corduroy Crossing (Burke Development Road), Norman River at Glenore (Gulf Development Road), Brannigans Creek (Karumba Development Road), Jenny Lind (Karumba Development Road) and Little Bynoe River (Savannah Way - Normanton - Burketown) and the installation of electronic signs at Normanton and Karumba advising of road opening / closures in wet weather.
Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council
At a special meeting on June 30 Council adopted its fees and charges for the new financial year saying most increases were kept at 1.7pc CPI.
Flinders Shire Council
Council has agreed to allow the Lions Club of Hughenden cater for the Toowoomba East Outback Getaway Rotary Club visit on 12 and 13 August at the Allan Terry Caravan Park with dinner on the Thursday night and breakfast on the Friday.
Council paid their annual membership to LGAQ of $69,331 and the NWQROC of $25,000.
Council submitted two applications under the $100m resource regions fund one to build a 54 room motel and restaurant to meet increasing accommodation demand and two to build new bores in Hughenden, Prairie and Torrens Creek.
Council agreed to research the availability of suitable land in Prairie and Torrens Creek to develop a display of historical machinery and vehicles.
After closed business, Council agreed to advance the Project Approvals and Development Deed to develop the Hughenden Meat Processing Facility to an investment ready stage.
Council also established a Hughenden Water Strategy Working Group with Mayor Jane McNamara as chair of the group and agreed on a contract with GHD to deliver works required in a staged approach up to a total payable of $598,000.
McKinlay Shire Council
On Kynuna water supply the Director Engineering said the water tank would be filled in the coming week and with trials to determine whether the water supply will need treatment to deal with manganese and iron. This could involve aeration.
Council approve the prior issuing of the Decision Notice for an Etta Plains Material Change of Use and Operational Works Development Permit. The proposal is for a water storage facility and associated earthworks. Due to regulatory timeframes the CEO had to approved the decision notice by June 30 and as the development application proposal is for the next stage of irrigated agriculture farming on Etta Plains it had prior Council support.
Council approved $5000 sponsorship requests from: Sedan Dip, Julia Creek State School Chaplaincy and a $1100 donation to Julia Creek Primary P&C Association.
Council approved tender documents for the sale of the former Town and Country building and land in Burke Street and the adjoining vacant residential lots fronting Golding Street
Council also adopted its budget at the meeting.
The Qld Governor will visit Julia Creek on August 31 between 10am-3.30pm and will visit the school, the bakery and attend a community afternoon tea.
Council will investigate the possibility of submitting an application for land development for housing and land package under the $100m resource regions fund.
Mornington Shire Council
Council authorised the CEO to survey Council's barge and investigate how a barge operation could be implemented between Mornington Island and Burketown.
Council will make representations to the Director General DATSIP for funding to provide a Men's Shed in Gununa.
Council will confirm with office of Liquor Licensing Regulation Council's recommendations for the consumption of alcohol at the tavern and will introduce an alcohol carriage limit on the island.
Following a recent fire on Lardil St Council wants exemptions to the Blue card requirement with assistance from the local Police and will lobby QFRS and Robbie Katter for a upgrading or creation of a Urban Fire Brigade for Mornington Island.
Richmond Shire Council
TMR have approved pedestrian crossing across the highway from the school in Richmond. RoadTek will be engaged to perform works. The Shire also passed its annual budget.
Winton Shire Council
Council awarded a tender for bitumen sealing on the Winton-Jundah Road to Stabilised Pavements of Australia Pty Ltd for $226,995.12.
The updated fee estimates from Steve Abbott - Project Management expert needed the casting vote of Mayor Gavin Baskett after three councillors voted against it - Crs Standfast, Seymour and White.
Council has approve the acquisition of the Hugh Sawrey painting 'The Yarners' for $10,000 with the purchase to be funded from the Art Gallery Exhibitions budget. It will be displayed at a Outback Regional Gallery exhibition Nov 21-Feb 22.
Council awarded a variation to 'Gromac Quarries Pty Ltd' for the Supply & Delivery of Gravel for the Winton - Richmond Road Project for the quoted amount of $36.15 per tonne.
Council approved street closures for the Outback Festival Sep 21-25 and agreed to grade the existing walking track route through to Mistake Creek and sponsor the Garden Competition that runs with the festival.
