Mount Isa cowboy Bryn Francis has the early lead in the 2nd div bulls with a 75 point ride with Normanton cowboy Eli Toby second on 72.
Candy Michaelis and her 11-year-old gelding Hustler are setting in the early pace in the Ladies Barrels with a time of 17.613. Kerry Holder and Dually are second in 17.714 while Ellyse Kenny and her horse Ted are third in 18.076.
Header Heath Nichol and heeler Chris Cameron set a new arena record of 5.9 seconds in the first section of the team roping.
Kylie Hancock and Pedro lead the early stage of the ladies breakaway roping while Dylan Corbet leads the junior breakaway section with Mount Isa's Cordel Gosbee second.
Current APRA champion Tate Van Wel of Charters Towers leads in the steer wrestling while Jericho's Jimmy McClelland leads in the junior steers which also features Julia Creek cowgirl Sharlette Johnson.
Day 1 of the Rodeo also featured four new inductees into the Rodeo Hall of Fame.
The Rodeo continues all weekend.
