The move reintroduces a lockdown they brought in back in 2020 and from Monday August 17, entry to Doomadgee Aboriginal Community, is by written permission and entry for anyone who is not a Doomadgee resident returning home, is by permit.

While there are no current lockdowns in Queensland, the move follows the spread of COVID into areas of large Aboriginal population such as Walgett in northern New South Wales.

Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council said the entry controls were brought in to protect the community during the current phase of COVID.

"We would highly recommend being able have that conversation prior to your personnel travelling to prevent anyone being turned around at the airport none of us wants to see precious funding money wasted that way, and some open communication between your organisation and Council will prevent this from occurring," Council said.

"These measures will remain in place until notification from Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council that these restrictions have been lifted."

Travellers will be required to supply the following information by email to covid19@doomadgee.qld.gov.au

1. Name of the person travelling.

2. Contact details (in case of last minute changes to restrictions).

3. Their Route.

4. Where they will depart from.

5. Where they have been in the previous 14 days.

6. Their proposed date of arrival.

7. Duration of proposed visit.
