Appearing in their first big dance after four years of existence they gave their all against defending premiers Buffs but came up just short.
In a thrilling qualifying final a few weeks ago Buff had prevailed by just two points and after Rhinos booked their spot in the decider with a six point win over Tigers, hopes were high they could overcome the minor premiers and favourites Buffs.
For two quarters they gave it all just three goals down at the main break.
Rhinos started the third quarter like they meant business and peppered the Buffs goal but were unable to convert possession into majors.
They were made to play for their misses as Buffs went down the other end and scored the first goal of the quarters.
Rhinos tried to rally with cries of "it's not over boys" but Buffs booted another goal a minute later and the margin was out to 32 points at three quarter time in what was a real premiership quarter from the boys in blue.
The final quarter was all about containment with tired legs all over the field.
Again Buffs tried to rally and gave their fans hope with the first goal of the quarter.
But Buffs steadied and used their grand final experience to take the sting out of the game.
Another goal sealed the victory though there was time for a consolation goal for Rhinos just before the final siren.
Final score Buffs 9.8 (62), Rhinos 5.7 (37).
