The disused hall opposite the airport was the premises of the now defunct Mount Isa Spanish association but a proposed group wants to give it a new purpose.
The terms of the building's lease was for sport and recreation but the lease had expired and prior to COVID a group of sporting and community organisations was looking at using the hall for activities.
There are alternative recommendations to Wednesday's meeting either to ensure building and electrical compliance on the land or Council agree to undertake works to ensure electrical compliance on the land with all building works to be undertaken by the new lessees.
The council report said works are required on the dwelling, clubhouse and ablution block in order to be electrical and building compliant.
Council noted that as the area will be leased to a Not-for-Profit organisation it may mean that they have to apply for funding or grants to move any building works forward.
"It is suggested that given the location the site, it would be an advantage to sporting organisations which require distance from urbanised areas due to noise," the council report said/
Queensland government transferred land into Council's trusteeship as a Reserve for Recreation.
In 2019 Council resolved to undertake a building inspection was undertaken to determine the necessary rectification works to the site and quotes for electrical works have been sought.
The estimated total costs to undertake the building, electrical and plumbing works is $80,000, $12,000 of which has been allocated for a new septic tank and absorption trench.
"While it is currently unknown if a new tank or the absorption trench will be required, given the age of the infrastructure it has been highlighted as a possible cost and has been included into the total cost of works," the report said.
After works have been completed, the subject lots will be advertised to invite Not-for-Profit organisations/association to submit a tender for use of the area for recreational purposes.
