At its September meeting on Wednesday Council decided undertake works to ensure building and electrical compliance.
Cr George Fortune said the building needed a lot of remedial work before it could be put out to lease.
Cr Phil Barwick said it was important to support sporting or community organisations and this would help.
The disused hall with frontage on the Barkly Hwy and Vintage Lane was the premises of the now defunct Mount Isa Spanish association but a proposed group in 2019 wanted to give it a new purpose.
The terms of the building's lease was for sport and recreation but the lease had expired and prior to COVID a group of sporting and community organisations was looking at using the hall for activities.
The estimated total costs to undertake the building, electrical and plumbing works is $80,000, $12,000 of which has been allocated for a new septic tank and absorption trench.
The council report said works are required on the dwelling, clubhouse and ablution block in order to be electrical and building compliant.
After works have been completed, the subject lots will be advertised to invite Not-for-Profit organisations/association to submit a tender for use of the area for recreational purposes.
Council noted that as the area will be leased to a Not-for-Profit organisation it may mean that they have to apply for funding or grants to move any building works forward.
