The big race of the day is Race 4 the Spring Cup Open Handicap over 1200m which doubles as a Country Cups Challenge Qualifier.
Last year Deadly Choices won to make it back-to-back Spring Cups but is not running this year leaving 2020 second placed Loud Enough trained by Steven Royes and ridden by Dan Ballard set to be favourite.
It is one of 16 races across regional Queensland that act as a Qualifier for the Country Cups Challenge final at Doomben on December 4 (the Cloncurry Cup on Friday, October 8 is another qualifier).
Race 3 at Mount Isa today is another qualifier, the Cava Contracting Country Stampede qualifier over 1000m with the final on the same December 4 race day at Doomben (and again Cloncurry's October 8 racing has another qualifier).
Race 5 is Mount Isa is another feature race the Cava Lord Derby Stakes QTIS Class 3 Plate over 1200m.
Gates at Buchanan Park open at 11am and the first race is at 1.20pm with usual TAB and bookie facilities available.
There will also be spring Fashions on the Field and the 'Lady of the Day' & 'Best Dressed Gent' this weekend will also qualify for the Racing Queensland "Fashions from Afar" made up of 16 qualifiers in line with the Country Cups circuit with regional winners being offered an invitation to the final event on George Moore Stakes Day in Brisbane on Saturday, December 4.
