Central west jockey Jason Missen rode Mark Oates's Van Winkel to victory by three quarters of a length to claim the big prize ahead of last year's winner Kapset and Mount Isa Spring Cup winner Grand Symphony.
Earlier Scott Sheargold had got the day off to a good start winning Race 1 the North Australia Veterinary Group QTIS Maiden Plate over 1000m on John Manzelmann's Ela Beach.
The favourite won by half a length from Whits End and Liz' Delight.
Race 2 was the Butler Agencies Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1000m and there was a win for Wayne Davis aboard Philip Cole's Faith and Love finishing a head clear of Scarpa with Flash Hombre finishing third.
In Race 3 Brodie and Co Stock and Station Agents Benchmark 55 Handicap over 1000m there was another close one Les Tilley rode Kerry Krogh's Dolladream to victory by a head from Christmas Creek with Mishani Rebel finishing third.
Race 4 was another chance to get to Doomben, the Westgulf Stockfeeds Country Stampede Qualifier Open Handicap again over 1000m.
Jockey Brooke Richardson steered $1.80 favourite Wall Street Tycoon to victory for trainer Todd Austin by three lengths from Raiden and Torchbearer.
The results mean that Van Winkel and Wall Street Tycoon have both earned a date at the George Moore Stakes day at Doomben on December 4.
In Race 5 Central Hotel Benchmark 60 Handicap over 1200m Teddy Mercury repeated his September 25 victory at Mount Isa for jockey Dan Ballard and trainer Denise Ballard, winning by one and a quarter lengths from Dunners and Yule My Hero.
Race 6 was the Bentley's Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1400m jockey Les Tilley had his second win of the day aboard Ray Hermann's Dark Archer winning by a head from Shivkhani and favourite Dusky Damsel.
Next racing in the North West is this Saturday, October 16 at Mount Isa.
Racing returns to Cloncurry two weeks later on October 30.
