That afternoon saw the inaugural Mount Isa Police v Schools touch football tournament at the Oval - the event being the brainchild of PLO George Leon to coincide with mental health week.
Uncle George wanted to reward local senior high school students for their efforts throughout the year and to remind them that while exams are coming up, it is more than ok to take a breather and enjoy yourself.
Competitors from both Spinifex State College Junior and Senior campuses, Good Shepherd Catholic College, Happy Valley State School and officers from Mount Isa Police Station took part in the social tournament, with many laughs being shared.
The main game saw Spinifex Senior take the win over Good Shepherd by 6-1.
The best & fairest awards went to (female) Shyniah Heness from Spinifex Senior and (male) T.J. Tapu from GSCC.
PLO Leon and Mount Isa police gave a huge thank you to Kim Coghlan and the Mount Isa Touch Association, for supporting the event and allowing the use of their fields.
Other shout outs went to Senior Sergeant Adrian Rieck and the North Queensland Police Academy Association for their sponsorship and assistance with prizes and the Mount Isa Irish Club for donating meal vouchers for prizes and soft drinks for the event.
There was a huge turnout from local police, with about 15 officers lacing up.
However, the police team wouldn't have stood a chance without ring-in rising stars Hayley Maloney from St Joseph's, Reece Green from Spinifex Jnr and Eugene Simmons from Central State School.
Mount Isa police congratulated Uncle George on a fabulous event.
"Your dedication and commitment to your role as School Engagement Officer, has an incredible and positive effect on our local kids," they said.
"We can't wait to see you all again next year - we're sure it'll be even bigger and better! If you're interested in getting involved next year, you know where to find us."
