The role will need to be appointed by MITEZ members at the Annual General Meeting, scheduled for November 9 so the search is on.
Cloncurry mayor Greg Campbell has acted as interim chair since July, appointed to the role following the retirement of long-term chair David Glasson who had been with the organisation for 13 years.
The Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone (MITEZ) is the peak regional development organisation for the seven local government areas along the Flinders Hwy - Mount Isa, Cloncurry, McKinlay, Richmond, Flinders, Charters Towers and Townsville covering 271,732 sq km and home to 230,000 people.
MITEZ said the ideal candidate would be a person passionate about the economic development of the corridor, who has board experience in similar roles, and is able to network across a diverse representation of government and private entities.
The chair is expected to represent the group in lobbying for the future development of the zone in a range of areas including tourism, agriculture, mining and supporting infrastructure.
Remuneration is a stipend plus expenses occurred and the expected time commitment is flexible, with the equivalent of at least 20 hours a month, plus attendance at committee, member, and stakeholder meetings, in locations throughout the MITEZ region.
