Julia Creek Caravan Park was among the big winners at the 2021 Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday.

The innovative caravan park took out gold in the caravan and holiday parks category, a deserved victory for the park which has become renowned for its artesian baths and its "boundary rider style" huts.
On their Facebook page Julia Creek Caravan Park said the focus of this award was on both the facilities and services that enhance the tourism experience.
"A significant amount of improvements and innovations have occurred at the Park over the last five years to enhance the facilities, services and experiences," the Park said.
"We are proud of the chances that we took (most notably, our artesian bath experience and bush dinner program) but, most of all, we are so appreciative to all staff, councillors, contractors and volunteers that make the Julia Creek Caravan Park a great part of the world."
The Park was among nine outlets in the Outback honoured at the Brisbane awards.
Longreach's Mitchell Grass Retreat won the New Tourism Business award while the same town's Visitor Information Centre won the Visitor Information Services award.
There were a silver medal for Ibis Style Mount Isa in the 3-3.5 Star Accommodation section as well as silvers for Visitor Information Centre: Balonne Shire Council, and Major Tourist Attraction - Australian Age of Dinosaurs & Museum of Natural History.
There were three bronzes for Cultural Tourism - Qantas Founders Museum, Major Tourist Attraction - Qantas Founders Museum and Festivals and Events - Big Red Bash.

Chair of Outback Queensland Tourism Association, Andrew Martin, said that with borders closed for two years, Queenslanders flocked to Outback Queensland to enjoy the diversity of experiences on offer.
"It has been Outback Queensland's best year yet, particularly due to strong investment and new infrastructure in the region pre pandemic, which meant travellers could also experience new and reinvigorated attractions such as the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, and Eromanga Natural History Museum," Cr Martin said.
"With borders set to reopen as we near Christmas, we are calling on Aussies to continue to hit the roads and adventure to Outback Queensland. Let's continue to explore our own backyard, support local, breathe in fresh outback air, and enjoy our region's country hospitality - because we love having you there and you'll love being there."
