Minister for Transport Mark Bailey said the 41km of track upgrade are now complete, and will help ensure supply lines aren't impacted by the wet season.
In a Statement, the Minister said "60 workers also delivered a brand-new bed of ballast for the sleepers to lay on, to further bolster track reliability."
The work was carried out on a section of the line near Charters Towers, part of a $50 million investment for the Mount Isa rail line including double-stacked trains, flood resilience and replacing aging sleepers.
In January the rail line was closed for a week due to a derailment near Charters Towers while there were also derailments in the 2019 floods at Nelia, and two involving a sulphuric acid spill, in July 2016 and Christmas 2015.
