Cloncurry Shire Council is looking to construct a 3.5km long and 2.5m wide shared pedestrian path and cycleway connecting the Chinaman Creek Recreational Reserve with town.
Council said it was looking to upgrade the Reserve to increase recreational options available in and around town.
"The primary objectives are to increase recreational options available in/around town, to connect with country, to showcase our landscape and environment, to support community health and well-being and to provide visitors with an extra reason to stay in town a little longer," Council said.
The intent of the project is to provide a readily accessible area, allowing for future development opportunities to maximise use of Recreation Reserve including a new pavilion structure with upgraded barbecue facilities, a bar and opportunities for food trucks, new fenced children's playground with new play equipment, new storage for water sports equipment, pontoon, segregated swimming area with outdoor showers, new amenities block, parking and traffic circulation and revised landscaping development.
