Belinda Murphy and Edwina Hick started Women of the West, as a Sedan Dip sub-committee in 2018 with a plan to host a women's wellness weekend at Sedan Dip.
However it was postponed by the Monsoon Flood of 2019 and when they resumed in 2020 it was with a successful brunch to raise $11,000 in funds against breast cancer.
The pair came back for more in October 2021 with a gala cocktail evening at Sedan Dip to raise more money for the Mount Isa and North West Queensland Breast Cancer Support Group.
Ms Hick said breast cancer was one of those things that everyone you know has someone who's been affected and they were happy to donate $24,262.51 from the night to a worthy cause.
"It was a fabulous night at Sedan Dip, the weather was amazing and we had a small but enthusiastic crowd of people which allowed us to raise the amount of money we did," Ms Hick said.
"Edwina and I both have friends and external family that have had breast cancer, it's really prevalent and as much as Mount Isa's got a unit here which is fantastic, but there is always gaps, so we thought how can we help locally, help people in our own community."
Gayle Steed from the Mount Isa and North West Queensland Breast Cancer Support Group said they supported 16 ladies across the north west in 2021 and she expected more to come so the money would be well spent on local recipients.
"We support them with financial help, pay medical bills or whatever they need," Ms Steed said.
"We also give them a care bag to help them through treatment."
Ms Murphy thanked the support of sponsors Tim and Maree McLaughlin from TPM Saddles, Peter McHugh Causeway, Evan and Kim Acton of Millungera Moonbeam, as well as Sisters of the North, North West PHN, Southern Gulf, Far Northern Pools Mount Isa and many more who all donated auction items for the Sedan Dip event.
She said planning had already started for another event "even bigger and better" in 2022.
Sue Reinke, also from the support group, said she and Gayle attended the night at Sedan Dip and "had an ball".
"We were blown away by the wonderful work these ladies did," Ms Reinke said.
"We are rounding up all our friends to go back next year."
