Registrations for the annual Gregory Canoe Marathon have opened, with event organisers expecting to draw a crowd from all corners of Australia.

Run by the North West Canoe Club, competitors have the option to take part in the 43km long course or 18 kilometre short course of the Gregory River, as a team or solo participant.
Event spokesperson Alison Whitehead said this year's event on Sunday May 1 was already lining up to be a great event.
"The river has been receiving some good rain so it will get a good flush out, they had about 20 millimetres on the weekend," Ms Whitehead said
"Nominations are open and coming through with quite good numbers at this stage with 50 people already nominated, we usually get about 180 registered.

"There are a good numbers registered for the teams this year for our Canadian Challenge, which has our esky full of beer and bragging rights for winning the event and $1000 prize money for the first team across the line."
Ms Whitehead said it was not just competitors from across the North West who had registered, but from all corners of Australia.
"We have people coming across from the Sunshine Coast and South Australia," she said.
"This event is very unique, the river is absolutely beautiful and the course is quite different. Each year there are new challenges and obstacles.
"I think its the comradery everyone is very friendly, encouraging and welcoming and it keeps people coming back."
Entry fee includes $120 for the long course entrants and $60 for the short course. Interested paddlers can register at RegisterNow.
The canoe marathon is also held in conjunction with the Saddles and Paddles race meeting at the Gregory Downs Turf Club on Saturday April 30 with free tickets available through EventBrite.
