The "Melbourne Cup of Camel Races" is celebrating its 25th anniversary and all roads in the outback will lead to Boulia on the weekend of July 15-17.
Organisers said they have been Australia's most loved camel races for 25 years and if witnessing the Boulia Camel Races is on your bucket-list, this is the year to join in.
Boulia is the richest camel races in Australia and the big 1500m Boulia Cup is the most coveted and prestigious win on the camel racing circuit.
After having to cancel in 2020 the Camel Races returned in 2021 and there was a local winner in the Races which offered a record $45,000 prize pool.
Local camel 'Gunna' lumbering over the finish line to take out the Thirsty Camel Cup for Boulia camel trainer, Roman Czubak to the cheers of record crowds.
Jockey Kelly Sloan rode 'Gunna' home across the 1500m in 2 minutes and 40 seconds to deliver the hometown team's first ever Cup win.
When the camels clear the track, it's your turn to hit the racetrack for some silly games and novelty races including foot races, tug-o-war, sack races, Boulia's unique camel tagging and even some yabby races.
Mayor of Boulia Shire Council Rick Britton said camels were fascinating, nomadic animals with minds of their own and funny to watch.
"The Boulia Camel Races is our biggest event and it's all run by a very small number of volunteers. It really means a lot to the locals," Cr Britton said.
Tickets are on sale here.
Camping is free at the racecourse grounds however luxury trackside glamping is available for the weekend.
