Kim Alcorn and Toby Wicks were the winners of the 15-kilometre course on Saturday April 23, taking on the new competition which replaced the annual triathlon tradition.
While Alcorn and Wicks were usual Dirt n Dust triathlon competitors, they both said the adventure run was an exciting new challenge.
"It was a really fun course. There was not much information provided about what the obstacles would be, so I felt like I wasn't mentally prepared. But once I had completed the first five-kilometre lap it was a lot of fun and a good challenge," Alcorn said.
"The most notable obstacles was the five meter trudge across the mud, the worst one was probably the actual bog which I almost lost a shoe in and my leg came out looking like a moon boot, the net in the water was pretty hectic, but still lots of fun."
Alcorn said as a seasoned triathlete the adventure run was a completely different challenge.
"Waking up the morning of the race the wind was so hectic I was a little thankful we didn't have to ride into that headwind. But in comparison the adventure run doesn't compare to being able to run five kilometres on flat ground to doing army crawls and running in bog.
"I definitely recommend that people give it a go at least once because it was a lot of fun and the comradery among competitors was really encouraging."
Wicks said this was his first time participating in an adventure run.
"The obstacles were good and I enjoyed the length of it, it made it challenging. I do a lot of endurance so I needed a bit of long-distance to get going," he said.
"Anything that involved climbing over webbing was the most difficult. There were two obstacles that involved climbing over a net, and I am a bit uncoordinated so I found it quite difficult.
"I'm a pretty casual competitor, part of me does miss the Dirt n Dust triathlon, but I am glad there is still an active event out there."
Other winners of the adventure run included Shanelle Flute and Tom Cureton for the 10km and Kayla Armstrong and Charles Gay for the 5km.
