Butchers from across the North West including Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Hughenden, Richmond, Normanton and Winton are urged to send through their best sausages for the event on May 14.
They can be thin beef, thin pork, and any other variety of thin or thick at the North West Sausages Championships, to be judged at the Great Australian Bites which will be held on the Mount Isa Civic Centre front lawns on Saturday, May 14, from 4pm-9pm.
The event will include food stalls from local community groups, free food tastings, food judging, live entertainment, and beer and wine tasting. Groups who are interested in having a food stall at the event are urged to register their interest at www.surveymonkey.com/r/GJ2BMQJ
At the event, the butchers with the winning sausages will be presented with a certificate for display in their business premises.
The Great Australian Bites aims to bring local and regional food, local entertainers, and bar facilities to the CBD for a relaxed evening of entertainment.
Mount Isa Mayor Danielle Slade said North West butchers make some of the best produce in the region and the Great Australian Bites is the perfect opportunity for them to showcase their product for the community.
"I encourage them to send their best sausages - whether that be their most popular flavours, what they consider to be their best flavours, or their most original or creative flavours - to us, and we'll let the judges decide at the event," Cr Slade said.
"Council is looking forward to hosting a relaxed festival atmosphere with great local food and entertainment to celebrate the great Australian way of life, as well as our many local multicultural flavours and talented artists."
Butchers interested in taking part in the competition should call Council's Economic Development Officer on 4747 3200 for local pick-up, or send their sausages to Mount Isa City Council, 23 West Street, Mount Isa, QLD, 4825.
