Regional Development Australia Townsville and North West Queensland (RDA) in conjunction with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training and Mount Isa City Council held the event at the Mount Isa Civic Centre on Tuesday May 3 aimed at connecting and strengthening regional businesses.
RDA CEO Wayde Chiesa said the seminar provided a one-stop shop for all agencies and services associated with small business.
"We know small business owners are very busy and sometimes don't have the time to seek assistance or advice," Mr Chiesa said.
"Essentially this event was about bringing business owners together to get them into an environment where government and business services are available and owners are able to talk to those services in one place.
"We also held several round table sessions with industry and government to speak about all things Mount Isa and the North West and we also went to local schools to interact with the kids."
"We bought Former North Queensland Cowboy Johnathan Thurston and Townsville-born Olympic Gold Medallist beach volleyball star Natalie Cook to the event because their experiences as elite athletes, those lessons can translate and transfer into small business."
Ms Cook said visiting Mount Isa was amazing and an opportunity to connect with not just small business owners but also the local kids.
"It has been great, we have visited three schools, The Flexi School, Good Shepherd and Spinifex State College. It was so great to talk to everyone, they're all so keen on sport. They all just came running out and wanted to kick a footy or engage with us," she said.
"Our sporting journeys translate really well to a business journey, the ups and downs and nothing ever going to plan. It's how you pick yourself up and dust yourself off and keep focused on your goals and purpose on why we do things.
"I always wanted to go to the Olympics, it was a long-term goal that I had to keep motivated for and sustain success, so I shared some tips and tricks around that which will hopefully help some businesses."
Mr Thurston said it was great to come back to the North West to engage with community again.
"We did four events last year following the floods in the North West, so it's great to be able to come back out here again for small business month and share our experiences with small business owners as we come out of the COVID-19 years," he said.
