Hughenden is one game clear of Doomadgee, however superior for and against means Doomadgee can leap frog them into the finals with a win against Normanton at the weekend.
Bulls host first ranked team Black Stars in the Carter Sheds Mid-West Rugby League action tomorrow, and coach Les Carter is backing his team to get the job done.
"We've got Will Singleton and Rowan Corny out but the rest of them are keen to play," he said.
"We've got plenty of back-up players and we've been working hard at training.
"We know we need to win to make finals, and that would be a great boost for our young side."
Although the past few weeks have been stop-start for Hughenden, they've taken the points in their past three outings.
While Town, Cloncurry and Doomadgee have struggled at various times with forfeits, the Bulls have been persistent in rolling out 13 players each week, which is finally being rewarded.
"We've got a very young side and they're learning each and every game," Carter said.
"It comes down to experience at the end of the day, our youngest player is 17 while our oldest is 24 or 25.
"The more games we get into them the more it's going to benefit them...hopefully that starts with finals."
Carter urged his team to take extra care while in possession this weekend.
"It's the same with any game really but we need to hold onto the ball," he said.
"The biggest thing for us on the weekend will be getting up in defence and not giving Black Stars any room to move."
While Hughenden will be hoping for a Doomadgee loss, Wanderers will briefly turn Dragons' supporters this weekend.
Doomadgee hosts Normanton in a match that will shape next weekend's finals.
If the Dragons win and Hughenden lose, Doomadgee will finish fourth.
A Dragons victory would also mean Wanderers hold onto second spot and subsequently a home semi-final.
If Normanton triumph, they will claim second and relegate Wanderers to third.
The final match of the round was expected to take place between Town and Cloncurry, however it is believed the Eagles will not travel to Mount Isa due to the confusion surrounding Town. - KEAGAN?RYAN
