More than 40 players took to the fairways for the North West District Golf Association Championship at the weekend, in some of the hottest conditions the region has seen for this time of year.
The strong field of golfers played at Mount Isa Golf Course on both Saturday and Sunday, with the A-grade battle eventually being won by Robbie Murphy with scores of 76 and 75, taking him to a total of 151.
Murphy had to overcome Michael Ruri, who led after day one with a sizzling 74.
Ruri's round of 77 on Sunday saw scores tied on 151, with a play-off hole required to determine the 2013 North West District Golf Association champion.
In a remarkable show of sportsmanship, Ruri conceded without a stroke being hit, letting Murphy lift the crown.
Meanwhile, the B-grade field saw Gavin Goodall crowned victorious with a consistent weekend, fetching scores of 82 and 81 to finish seven strokes clear on 163.
John Dunne was runner-up with a total of 172 across the two days, as the rest of the B-grade field struggled in the face of searing heat and gusty winds.
Andrew Simkus was C-grade winner with a total of 195, winning in a no-show play-off from Peter Armstrong (96, 99 - 195).
The nett champions on the day went to Manu Ruri (139), Dave Carter (140) and Russell Walmsley (141).
Next weekend, Mount Isa Golf Club hosts the Golf Shop Stableford followed by the Midweek Sporters Break-Up.
