Young Guns celebrated a last-gasp one-point win at Legend Oval as they secured a second chance in the finals with a top two regular season finish.
Jamison Billy booted four goals for Young Guns but it was the heroics of Selwyn Teague’s sideline goal in the dying seconds that proved the difference.
His goal sealed a dramatic win for Young Guns and set up a double chance in this year’s finals series.
Not even a seven-goal haul to Cargill medallist James Page was enough for a Buffs’ victory.
Young Guns were the better side in the early stages of the game, utilising the breeze to full effect in the second term as they established a 21-point lead at half-time.
But as quickly as the Young Guns had earned a break on their rivals, Buffaloes hit back when they afforded their chance to use the wind advantage.
Buffaloes looked unstoppable as they slammed on five goals immediately after the start of the second half.
Young Guns stemmed the flow and kicked a goal of their own against the run of play but trailed by two points going into the final quarter.
Buffaloes ran out the game better than their opponents, kicking three goals against the wind but were eventually denied victory by Teague’s goal.
Alistair Baker was best afield for Buffaloes, adding another element to the half-forward line with Page’s seven-goal haul.

In the early game, a ruthless Tigers rubber-stamped its top two spot in the AFL Mount Isa competition with a 107-point thrashing of Rovers on Saturday.
After two previous 90-plus point wins against the reigning premiers, the Tigers side highlighted its dominance with a three-digit margin win.
The Tigers’ potent forward line of Shane McCarthy (four goals), Brodie Deverell (three goals) and Nick Aberline (five goals) was too much for the Rovers defenders to handle.
Thirty-five scoring shots from the Tigers to a paltry eight to Rovers told the tale of the clash.
Tigers will now face Buffaloes next weekend with a victory sealing the minor premiership for Tigers.
