■Kierran Moseley: The Cloncurry rugby league prodigy made his National Rugby League debut this year against the Manly Sea Eagles.
In his second year with the Penrith Panthers, the 20-year-old hooker proved he had what it takes to make it in first grade.
Despite only playing one game in the top grade, Moseley has moved to the Gold Coast Titans during this off-season, where he should have the chance to play more regularly.
■Dan Ballard: The Mount Isa jockey claimed the Mount Isa jockey premiership in July, just ahead of Tamara Tincknell and Aaron Spradau.
The victory was even more impressive as Ballard missed the first two Mount Isa race meets as he was on his honeymoon. Ballard ended the season with 14 wins, ahead of Tincknell’s 13 and Spradau’s 12.
■Kolby Johnston: The 23-year-old Mount Isa boxer claimed the Queensland light middleweight title earlier this month.
With that win, Johnston moves into the top 10 boxers in his weight class in the country, giving him the opportunity to potentially challenge Australia champion Shaggy King.
Once Johnston recovers from a broken left hand, 2015 could be his biggest year to date.
TEAMS OF THE YEAR
■Aces women’s hockey team: Aces women created hockey history this year when they won their ninth consecutive Mount Isa hockey title.
The team capped off a strong season with an emphatic 5-0 victory in the final against Pirates.
Welita Sloane was the star of the final, scoring two of the goals.
■Concordia men’s soccer team: A 2-0 defeat of Atlas in the grand final sealed Concordia’s third Mount Isa men’s soccer A-grade title in a row.
Star midfielder Billy Orsag proved the difference, scoring both goals in the win.
■Euros rugby union team: Euros successfully defended their Mount Isa rugby union crown this year, when they defeated Cloncurry 24-14 in the final.
Two tries from Tyrone Turaga proved the difference, as the Euros fought back and claimed the title.
■Townview Cricket Club: Led by Mount Isa Player of the Year Billy Baillie, Townview had one of its strongest seasons in recent memory.
It claimed the 40-over minor premiership, as well as winning the 40-over and Twenty20 finals.
MOMENT OF THE YEAR
■Parkside women’s soccer team: Heading into the Mount Isa women’s grand final, minor premiers Tigers were the heavy favourites.
Neither side could break the 0-0 dead lock before full time, before Parkside were forced to fight back and equalise through Brooke Giardina after Lauren Jamieson put Tigers ahead.
The match went to penalties, where Parkside goalkeeper Sharradha Rolland proved the difference, as their side claimed the upset win.
■Lake Nash AFL team: Halfway through the Mount Isa AFL season, the Young Guns were struggling for form and consistency.
But eight straight victories saw them storm into the grand final, which they would eventually lose to Tigers in a nail-biter.
Led by the freakishly talented Jamison Billy, the Young Guns will be the team to beat in 2015.
RISING STAR
■Soshua Gasio: The 17-year-old boxing talent capped off his breakout year by claiming both the junior light middleweight crown at the 2014 Australian Amateur Boxing League national titles, as well as the open light middleweight title.
This performance in Tasmania backed up his strong showing at the Queensland titles, where he again claimed gold.
■Coen Hess: After leaving Mount Isa in 2011, the North Queensland Cowboys junior star has been impressing all the right people.
After playing 16 games in the National Youth competition for the Cowboys, the 18-year-old was recently named in the Emerging Maroons Squad, proving that he is a talent of the future.
Keep an eye out for this name in future Queensland rugby league teams.
COACH OF THE YEAR
■Alan Baillie: The Wanderers RFC mentor guided his team to their first premierships since 2009 this season.
After winning the minor premiership, the Wanderers were determined to claim the double.
In one of the most entertaining Mid-West Rugby League finals in recent memory, Wanderers defeated Normanton 40-34 at Alec Inch Oval.
■Rohan Webb: Webb turned the Lake Nash Young Guns from an exciting team in the AFL Mount Isa to the most dangerous in half a season.
His experience and the confidence he instilled in his younger players was evident with the reckless abandon they displayed on the field.
