The festivities will be held at Leichhardt Services Bowls Club on Sunday, February 1, from 10am for those who wish to join. Leichhardt Services Bowls Club president Graham Vonhoff said the sport of darts was getting bigger and bigger.
“There was a big darts club years ago but the popularity of the game dropped,” he said.
“Fox Sports has increased the popularity of it with players playing for big money.’’ Mr Vonhoff said existing boards from many years ago with names of champions were still at the club.
Mr Vonhoff said the club hoped to get a strong turn-out for the sign-on day, leading to a full season of competition.
“If we have the numbers, we can have a tournament at the North West Games,” he said.
Mr Vonhoff said the bowls club had new facilities and was a meeting place for a lot of sports clubs in Mount Isa.
