The major parties, the LNP and Labor require their candidates to maintain the party line and not to rebel from their policies; you only need to look back over the past three years at what happened to the LNP MPs who disagreed with Campbell Newman and the LNP, they are either independents this election or out of politics altogether.
Labor when in government is no different in this respect.
I am a candidate of a minor party, who is never going to have enough seats to form government.
However, if elected we can hold the balance of power and ensure the government is honest and accountable to the people of Queensland and the Mount Isa electorate.
Holding the balance of power will also ensure that our electorate is not overlooked as it has been for the past three years, which is evident by the lack of capital works projects, cuts to frontline services and disregard for the wealth that this electorate produces that has been displayed by the current government.
I am an avid opponent of asset sales, and along with my party I believe like most Queenslanders that it makes far more sense to hold on to our assets that generate about $1.289 billion to $2 billion a year for Queenslanders, rather than flog them off for a short-term fix.
At the end of the day when all has been sold and government’s mis-management and overspending of revenue, what do we do then, who will own us? If elected I will do all in my power to block the sale of this states assets.
Like my party I believe water is so important that it should have its own portfolio. As one of the world’s driest continents, Australia must use its water resources wisely.
We do not believe in the privatisation of water. Environmental fundamentalism is driving policies that are eroding our property rights through greatly increasing the regulatory burden and by denying us our constitutional rights. In regards to our electorate I will actively campaign for greater water storage facilities for Mount Isa, Cloncurry’s Chinaman Creek Dam project and improved water storage facilities for the Gulf communities of Georgetown and Forsayth.
These are just two of our policies which I feel strongly about and which if elected I will actively champion.
In short if you want strong, effective representation which will actively hold the government accountable and promote the whole Mount Isa electorate number only one box and ‘‘Vote 1 Scott Sheard, One Nation Party’’.
