The club has about 100 members who will race in a number of different categories, treasurer Taryn Llewellyn said.
“For many years an unofficial club raced about at the Air Flight Fields off Diamantina Development Road but about three years ago that was ceased and a group of individuals went into the planning of leasing a block of land to establish an official club and track, which is what we have today on Bendall Drive,’ she said. “During the last three years we have had many dedicated volunteers donate resources, materials, labour and time to build and get the track up and running, without these people and their continuing support the club would not be where we are today.”
Members race Radio Control Cars mainly consisting of 1/8 Scale 4wd Buggys - both electric and nitro and the club will grow into many other categories.
“Future plans consist of building multiple tracks to cater for all ages, scales and classes of cars also improvements of our facilities.”
Club days will run fortnightly and practice days throughout the week for shift workers.
The club has a Facebook Page – Mount Isa Radio Control Buggy Club – which is updated with the latest track work, times and updates.
