THE POPE’S visit to America saw him address Congress and the United Nations. He was well received by the masses. In Congress he said more needs to be done for the poor, but failed to mention the squillions of dollars locked up at the Vatican that could be disposed of and the money distributed to alleviate poverty. He seems to have invented a new commandment; stopping the flood of refugees was a sin. I can’t recall that one in Scripture.
The Pope prayed with leaders of other faiths. I don’t recall Jesus praying with the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Herodians. On the contrary, they conspired to have him killed. Pope Francis glossed over the sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. No mention of getting rid of the un-Biblical 1000 year old doctrine of celibacy.
To his credit he did mention the scourge of usury and world debt. He could have made a real splash by calling for a world Jubilee to cancel all debt. He must know how the banking system operates and how money is created and the way it is used to enslave the masses as well as nations.
The Pope said a lot of things to appeal to the masses but he blew his chance to make a real difference in his two speeches.
If we were expecting him to denounce sin like some biblical prophet then we’ve been disappointed. – Jay Nauss, Glen Aplin.
HAS ANYONE heard from the Katter's Australian Party recently condemning the CFMEU regarding its questionable working relationships with developers and its current days in court? Of course not, and you won't.
The ongoing hypocrisy of Robbie Katter and big-hat Daddy Bob is that they won't criticise their union thuggery mate because the CFMEU funds their party, and their re-election campaigns.
It's printed in black and white on their web page and declared in Parliament. No conflict of interest, of course.
Nor will you them criticise gun owners or rampant kangaroo and wildlife shooters because the Katter's Australian Party is also funded in part by the Australian Shooters Association.
Nor will you see the Katters driving any gun control legislation because to do so would mean one of its supporters would get really upset.
Robbie and Bob Katter are hypocrites and the fact they are compromised by their own corporate supporters removes any credibility of them as independent. – John Andrews, Cloncurry.
THE INQUIRY into the greyhound racing industry has revealed that 13,000 to 17,000 greyhounds are put down each year. Oh my, oh my! This was reported in such a fashion as to make it sound like the end of the world had come.
But what about the 100,000 human babies that never see the morning light because their lives are cut short in the womb? Little concern is shown for that. The world sure has its priorities back to front, in my opinion.
This reminds me of the story of when they were building the ancient tower of Babel. Ancient writings say it was a greater tragedy when a brick was dropped and broken than when a worker fell and lost his life.
How long can society endure when we have the same attitude as the ancient Babylonians? Can we conclude that we will suffer the same fate as they did and our society will disintegrate in a similar fashion? – Jay Nauss, Glen Aplin.
ONLINE:
We have several online replies to our Facebook posting on family violence
Jeremy Bond: Men suffer from domestic violence as well, maybe all should respect that fact and acknowledge that as well, so you are right, family violence is not caused by "men" but also women!
Glenda Shaw: Violence of all kinds is a crime. Jeremy there are more women killed in violent situations than men ... and DV affects more women and children than men. It's not saying men aren't affected ... but they are definitely a minority.
Fiona Sanderson: It can also be family members who suffer.
