The day started with players’ names being drawn out of a hat to assign random partners. The teams then played through a group stage to qualify for either the A or B grade finals.
The standard was high, with the more experienced players teaching novices and bringing out the best in them. Will Robinson (once) and Trent Read (twice) scored the day’s only 180s.
After the group and proceeding rounds were played, the B grade final saw the team of Wayne Tindale and Peter Birlingham take on Chris Dawn and Damien Hall. In a one-sided match, Wayne and Peter emerged with a 4-1 victory.
The A grade final between Carl O'Keeffe-Chris Bro and Trent Read-Rob Walsh was a much closer affair.
Carl and Chris started strongly and stormed to a 4-1 lead in the first to five match-up. But Chris was unable to remain cool under pressure and missed a couple of vital doubles, which allowed Trent to even it up at 4-all. With the contest on a knife’s edge, Carl held his nerve when he needed 32 in the final leg to plant his last dart in the double 16 and take the title.
The next event for Mount Isa Darts Club is the World Dart Series League on November 11. For details, call Daniel Flanigan on 0417318790
