The app is one of two online tools Mount Isa Mines says will provide transparent information on the mine's air quality and sulphur dioxide management activities.
The AQMI (Air Quality Mount Isa) smartphone app shows the mine's data from Mount Isa's air quality and weather conditions in the Queensland outback town.
The company has also launched a new AQMI (Air Quality in Mount Isa) online portal on the Mount Isa Mines website which provides sulphur dioxide data automatically uploaded every hour from Mount Isa's air quality monitoring network.
The AQMI online portal also provides details about air quality initiatives in the mine's environment program and sulphur dioxide management practices.
The company says these tools provided transparent access to air quality information and complemented the existing air quality management systems to minimise impacts on the local community.
Maryann Wipaki, HSEC Manager for Glencore's North Queensland Operations, said the website and app would help them maintain open communication with the people of Mount Isa on air quality management performance.
"The AQMI app and online portal are new and exciting online tools for our community to become more familiar with our comprehensive air quality monitoring network," Ms Wipaki said.
"Mount Isa Mines monitors air quality in Mount Isa 24 hours a day, seven days a week and works to minimise sulphur dioxide impacts on the community."
Ms Wipaki said their Air Quality Control had daily forecasts and reports and monitored and responded to real-time air quality data.
"If unfavourable weather patterns are predicted by our Air Quality Control we will reduce or shut down our operations until conditions improve," she said.
"Using these new tools, the Mount Isa community can be better aware of air quality."
