David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryor have a combined 60 years experience in opera, orchestra, and music theatre, and Kidd says the music is far from straight opera.
“We are trained opera singers and opera is a passion, but we grew up listening to and singing music theatre, rock ‘n’ roll, swing music, so we’ve got this broad range of musical taste and that’s reflected in the show,” Kidd said.
Tenori will perform two versions of the show at the Civic Centre, Morning Melodies for seniors, and the evening performance from 7.30pm.
They also have a special lunchtime performance for seniors at the Laura Johnson Home.
From Michael Buble to the Bee Gees, Kidd says the set list depends on their mood on the day.
“At night we might do more swing and jazz, and in the morning maybe a bit more classical and opera. There’s always some surprises,” Kidd said.
“It’s not a scripted thing like a musical, it’s more like a cabaret show, we tell stories and jokes between songs, so it’s very free flowing,” he said.
While he says there are beautiful, sensitive, operatic moments, there’s always an element of humour and something for everyone to take away.
“There’s nothing stuffy about it, we’re Aussie, we like to have fun, and we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
“We sing the songs that we like to listen to, and the audience generally shares our taste,” Kidd said.
This is the first time Tenori will tour regional centres in Australia.
“We're very excited about that, Mount Isa is a first for us and we’re going to NSW, Victoria and WA, so we are going to all points of Australia, and we love it,” Kidd said.
Kidd is from Brisbane where all three singers are based, Andrew Pryor was born in Adelaide, while Craig Atkinson is from New Zealand.
Tickets are $25-45, on sale now from the Mount Isa Civic Centre box office.
