Gildea is English but is fitting into life in the bush.
Gildea moved to Australia eight years ago from her hometown of Richmond in North Yorkshire and has lived in Mount Isa since 2009.
The English cowgirl jumped at the chance to be queen, saying there were many reasons for her choice.
“I want to build confidence and be involved in the positive atmosphere of the quest, and promote a sport that has turned into a passion,” Gildea said.
The queen will represent the National Rodeo Council of Australia and must display equestrian skills.
“Because horses are such a big part of my life, it was important to me to be involved in a competition where I could demonstrate my riding abilities,’ Gildea said.
Gildea is studying hard for September, where she will be judged on personality, appearance, rodeo knowledge and horsemanship.
2017’s queen is Mount Isa born Bessie Smits who lives in Cloncurry.
