Alison Whitehead of Gecko Outdoor Sports encouraged less experienced runners to challenge themselves, and ran alongside them in the 50km distance despite her own 100km plus abilities.
Whitehead finished the race in 7 hours 50 minutes, saying it was the perfect day for a run.
“The weekend was fabulous. The rain brought course changes and a late start but the day was perfect for running.
“With the change of course there was a lot more technical running, a climb down the Taros ladders and an awful slog up Nelly’s Glen.
“All the Gecko crew finished and they can now all proudly call themselves Ultra Marathoners. I’m seriously proud of them all,” she said.
New runner Alice Moncrieff said she was completing such a great distance, but finished in just over 15 hours with the support of her husband, Shane.
“Will I do it again? Hell yeah. It was tough and at times I hated it, but when I look back at the night it reminds me how far I have come. I may not be the fastest but I finish,” Moncrieff said.
