The best of the best in Australian bull riding will be coming to North Queensland for the first time to put their skills to the test in the K&R Contracting Xtreme Bull Ride.
More than 40 gutsy bull riders have signed up for the Curry Merry Muster Festival’s highlight event, which will take place on Thursday night.
The high energy riding action isn’t the only thing making the Xtreme Bulls a unique form of entertainment at the 2017 Merry Muster.
Entry to the event is free – the first time it has ever been free to the public anywhere in Australia.
“It’s a real hats off to the Merry Muster committee to give Cloncurry the opportunity to have it as a free event,” Xtreme Bulls organiser Simon Creswell said.
The public will be able to see riders battle it out across two-and-a-half hours of fast-paced, adrenaline pumping action for a chance to win $10,400 in prize money.

With a solid list of nominated riders and some of the best bulls in Australia, Mr Creswell promises a great night of entertainment, rock’n’roll flair and all the thrills and spills expected at a bull riding event.
“Jake Whalan is one of the most exciting young riders,” Mr Creswell said.
“He’s currently third in the APRA bull ride standings, which is a hard place to get to. They call him ‘Sticky’ because he is sticky on the seat; his riding capability is great, a young hot shot.”
Local ears will prick up at the name Jason Mara, who will ride at Cloncurry in the hope of making a second Xtreme Bulls win.
The Cloncurry local won the last Xtreme Bulls event held in Roma earlier this year. He will take on Bombastic in the third round.
Competition will be fierce with current number one Jared Borghero also registered to compete.
While the prize money is a draw card for the riders, Mr Creswell said it is the points they will be after.
A win at Xtreme Bulls goes towards the rider’s APRA Championship points.
The event begins at 7pm with the public encouraged to head to the Cloncurry Showgrounds after the completion of the street parade.

Mr Creswell said there is excitement and a bit of theatre about the event. Rock’n’rock music will set the atmosphere for the night as the riders and protection athletes (rodeo clowns) Simon Batts and Dean Perry are introduced to the crowd before the action kicks off.
The event has been designed to be family friendly, incorporating a family fun entertainment running alongside the bulls, as well as live entertainment from Chicko and the Breakaways. To view the full Xtreme Bulls draw visit www.prorodeo.com.au.
