Des Hanrahan, of Daysdale, in the Riverina area of NSW, is the lucky dad.
He was nominated by son Phillip, 9, who said: “I love my dad because he is always working hard on the farm and he always has time to kick the footy.” Daughter Ashley, 11, was also in on the competition entry, taking the prize-winning photo.
The kids often join in and help out with sheep work, Des said.
The Hanrahan family – Des and wife Elvie and Des’s brother Len and his wife Janet – grow sheep (Merino and Border Leicester) and grain on their 1400-hectare property. Des’s father and grandfather were farmers in the district before him.
Des said he had been budgeting to upgrade an old quad bike to a Landboss-type vehicle – something with better safety equipment. That was now one less expense he’d have to worry about.
The judges agreed that Des was a deserving winner of the Landboss 800D utility vehicle worth $15,990.
It was a tough decision with more than 1000 entries received from right across Australia. The winner was selected from a shortlist of 25 finalists. You can view their tributes to their fathers in this photo gallery.
