Association President, Mal Kleinnan, said the finals held on Saturday, August 26, were a great success.
“It was a very successful and fine day. Our under 7s had a normal day of hockey, and in the second half of the game, the parents joined in,” Kleinnan said.
“Normally the parents are umpiring or coaching so it’s nice for them to be able to join in and have fun playing alongside or against the kids,” he said.
Aces hockey club managed a win for both the under 11 and under 16 grand finals this year, and was congratulated in a public Facebook post by MIHA.
“Congratulations to Aces hockey club for taking both the under 11 and under 16 grand finals. We are proud of you, your coaches, and parent supporters. We are also proud of all the other junior clubs, parents and coaches. You have all made 2017 junior hockey a pleasure to be part of, and we hope to see you all with friends in 2018.”
Kleinnan said in the under 16s league this year, the association is down to three clubs.
“We are hoping to build numbers for next season, which starts in early March.”
The association will hold a summer competition before rolling into its new season.
“The summer comp is open to all ages and all skill levels, and it’s free to compete,” Kleinnan said.
From there, children and adults can choose which club they want to play for, according to the best fit for that player.
All four Hockey clubs are proud to have junior and senior teams, Kleinnan said.
"It’s an inclusive sport and it’s a chance for us to have more inclusion – there’s a spot for everyone really."
“We're trying our best to keep the sport going and encourage take up at the junior levels,” Kleinnan said.
The season may be over, but the under 15s will be looking forward to the upcoming summer competition and championship away, with details still to be determined.
