Dragon boats are provided as are steerers, thanks to the North West Canoe Club.
Interested parties need a team of 14 paddlers and a drummer, usually a child for weight restrictions, to keep the paddlers in time.
Training sessions take place at Lake Moondarra every Saturday in October at 3.30pm, and there will be a free test run this Saturday, with a sausage sizzle to follow.
The race itself is a 400m straight course sprint, Commerce North West President, Travis Crowther, said.
“It keeps it nice and easy. It’s all about co-ordination and strength,” he said.
Among the athletes is a multitude of people from local sporting organisations and businesses.
The cost is $200 per team. There are prizes for first, second, and third places.
