But the non-existent wet season so far has left the dams dry so this year, the annual campdraft and rodeo is moving to McIntyre Park at Julia Creek this Easter.
Organiser Marcus Curr said their dam supplies all the showers, toilets and the arena.
“If the rain came now it would flood our creek and the arena,” Mr Curr said.
“The location change is just for this year only, we should be back to normal next year.
“We have a couple of properties down Julia Creek way and a lot of our young cattle there, so we have enough stock ready to go.”
McIntyre Park at Julia Creek is a racecourse, campdraft and rodeo venue with facilities for hot showers.
“Its a really good venue at Julia Creek, it promises to be a great weekend,” Mr Curr said.
The event boasts an action packed four day campdraft and rodeo program from Friday March 30 - Monday April 2.
“Friday afternoon will be the restricted campdraft with Saturday campdrafting all day then Sunday is the finals of the open and the maiden and kids campdraft,” Mr Curr said.
“The rodeo events will start about 2pm on Sunday then Monday is all campdraft events again.”
The venue will be selling drinks and playing music for the whole weekend.
“We are expecting a lot of competitors and spectators because it will be the weekend before the finals which will be held at the Burke and Wills,” he said.
“People from NSW, south east Queensland and central Queensland as well as the locals from our region will be coming.
“You’ll see the best of the best campdrafting.”
The Boulia Easter campdraft has also been rescheduled because of the drought and will now be held in May.
