Sikaran Martial Arts are hosting the event at the Mount Isa Pistol Club as a fundraiser for the Sikaran students who are representing Australia at the World Eskrima, Kali, Arnis Federation (WEKAF) World Titles in July 2018.
Sikaran Fundraising Coordinator, Marilyn Roche, said the Pistol Club are allowing us to host the event and they will provided the instructors, firearms and ammunition.
“Members of the public are welcome to attend and pay a small fee to try the sport of pistol shooting,” Roche said.
“Apart from using this day to raise funds for our Eskrimadors who are representing Mount Isa and Australia on the world stage, it is also a membership drive for the Pistol Club.”
Sikaran President Dallas Farnsworth said at Sikaran, we study two styles of Filipino martial arts, Sikaran Karate and Doce Pares Stick Fighting.”
“Our Students attending WEKAF 2018 will be competing in Full Contact Stick-Fighting (Eskrima) using both single and double sticks as well as Kualta (padded sticks) where the competitors wear minimal armour.”
In June 2017 Sikaran Martial Arts stick fighters attended the WEKAF Australian National Titles, returning to Mount Isa with an impressive eight medals and places on the Australian National Team.
Sikaran Martial Arts Secretary Chris Roche said everyone who attended the Nationals put in an amazing effort and those attending the World Titles have intensively trained 5 days a week to get ready for the World Titles.
“It’s a tough sport that consists of three one-minute rounds with 30-second breaks.
“We would love to see a good turn out and show of support for our Martial Artists who will be fighting some of the best stick fighters the world has to offer,” said Roche.
The ‘Come and Try Day’ will commence at 8:30am on Sunday April 29 at the Mount Isa Pistol Club in Todd Road. Shooters aged 11 year and up can purchase a 20 round pistol match for $10.
