The competition attracted men and women from around the country who played rugby at their schools or loved to watch it.
With no experience necessary except the inclination to want to have a go and meet people with a common interest, teams of players came from near and far.
Many of the men or women who made up the teams manage properties and businesses in their local rural communities.
This year’s men's competition was won by the Longreach Razorbacks who defeated the Coastal Kings and the women’s competition was taken out by the Social Honey Vadgers.
Australian Men's Sevens player, Ed Jenkins is the most capped player of all time with 52 tournaments spanning over a decade with the sport and he attended the event.
“Its rugby league heartland out here so it was great to be able to attend two local schools and tell the 90 kids about the opportunities Sevens has to offer.”
“I talked about what Sevens actually is and we went through a few exercise drills,” Jenkin said.
Jenkins has had a glorious career spanning many years.
He has competed in two Rugby World Cup Sevens campaigns and won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games and he added to his Commonwealth Games medal collection in Glasgow, picking up a Bronze medal where he was captain of his team..
He was also captain of the Australian team that played at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Jenkins continued to add to his accolades in 2017, with the Hong Kong leg of the World Series Circuit allowing him to reach 50 Aussie Sevens Caps, the first player in Australian Sevens history to reach that milestone.
He is Australia’s highest all time try scorer with a total of 109 tries to his name.
