After an enthralling battle Tom Braithwaite defeated his brother in straight sets 6-3 6-3.
Crissa de Sagun claimed victory in the womens singles after she proved too strong for her opposition, Danielle Burns.
Competitors from around Australia flocked to town for the Copper City Tennis Club’s Buffs Mount Isa Open earlier this month.
Club president Theresa Braithwaite said the two day event was enjoyed by all who participated.
“This was the first time the club hosted an Australian Money Tournament which attracted Australia Ranking points in the silver category,” Ms Braithwaite said.
“Even though numbers were not as good as we had hoped the tennis that was played on the weekend was of a very high standard.”
Before the two Braithwaite brothers faced off in the finas, they both had to overcome tough semi final matches.
Thomas Braithwaite was up against Mateo Villa from Sydney and in Matthew Braithwaite played David Osborne from Townsville.
“Both semi finals saw some excellent shot making but the Braithwaite brothers ended up victors only to play each over for the title on the Sunday morning,” Ms Braithwaite said.
In the men’s doubles Matthew Braithwaite and Mateo Villa got their revenge defeating Tom Braithwaite and David Osborne in a very tight match 6-7, 6-1, 10-8.
“The ladies doubles saw Danielle Burns and Meg McDougall clinch the title in a nail biting match over Crissa De Sagun and Loteafi Hoffman 6-7 6-1 14-12,” Ms Braithwaite said.
The juniors took to the court in a round robin on Sunday morning which saw Jacob Juillerat defeating Sarah Wilson 6-3 after each player had won their pool of the two round robins.
“Overall the club was very happy with the outcome and wish to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and players who participated in the weekend of tennis,” Ms Braithwaite said.
