The night time watering in Mount Isa has changed from 8-10pm to 6-9pm.
I’ve been doing yards for over 25 years now and if everyone waters from 6-9pm the pressure is not as good.
In the early days we wrote a letter to Council for early morning watering say 1-3am or 4-6am.
Why not have a register again?
A lot of people have spent a lot of time and money on their yards.
Why not water when they want as we are paying for the cost?
The footpaths are turning into a sad state now.
In the early days Council gave you a tree to keep the front nice, why not do it again?
I approached the Council wanting two or three trees for the front.
It would do away with the lawn and trees are easier to maintain and need less water.

Fluoride is not the answer
Re Star article “Fluoride back for Council debate” (Sep 25).
There is nothing like a glass of cool, clear water to quench one’s thirst.
But the next time you or your child reaches for one, you might want to question whether that water is in fact too toxic to drink.
If the water is fluoridated , the answer may well be yes.
We would not purposely add arsenic or lead to the water supply, but we add fluoride.
The fact is that fluoride is more toxic than lead and just slightly less toxic than arsenic.
According to “Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products” 5th edition, 1984, lead is given a toxicity rating of 3 to 4 and fluoride is rates 4 where 3 is moderately toxic and 4 is very toxic.
On December 7, 1992 the new EPA Maximum Contaminant Level for lead was set at 0.015ppm with a goal of 0.0ppm.
The MCL for fluoride is currently set for 4.0ppm – that is over 250 times the permissable level of lead.
The first thing you have to understand about fluoride is that it is the problem child of industry.
Its toxicity was recognised at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution when in the 1850s iron and copper factories discharged it into the air and poisoned plants, animals and people.
Tacoma, Washington temporarily ceased water fluoridation during a 1992 drought and lead levels dropped from 33 parts per billion to 17 ppb.
The EPA’s MCL for lead is 15 ppb.
In Thurmont Maryland lead levels in town water have decreased significantly since town officials stopped adding fluoride.
In recent years it’s been shown flouridation is neither essential for good health nor protective of teeth. What it does is poisons the body.
The US Public Health Service has stated that fluoride makes bones more brittle and dental enamel more porous.

Editor’s Note: Mr Moore has provided many references to back up his assertions in the letter. Nonetheless an important point need to be made: Fluoride is perfectly safe for dental health at the low concentrations proposed by medical authorities. In NSW fluoride is added to the water supply at a level of 1 milligram per litre in line with the National Health and Medical Research Council recommendations. Fluoride has been added to water supplies in NSW commencing with Yass in 1956 with more than 60 years of experience providing effective and safe water fluoridation.
