The 13-year-old Mount Isa resident has been short listed to the top 10 for the Suncorp Wish Upon a Ballet Star competition.
Maddison’s mum Sam said her daughter was ‘absolutely ecstatic’ after she found out she had been shortlisted.
The major winner of the competition will have a walk-on role in Queensland Ballet’s The Nutcracker.
Maddison has never seen a live ballet performance by the Queensland Ballet cast, and Sam said it would be a dream come true for her.
Maddison is a student at Mount Isa School of Dance and been dancing since she was a toddler.
Sam said dancing has always been a major passion for Maddison, who ‘never sits still and is constantly tapping her feet’.
To enter the competition Maddison uploaded a 100-word piece on a lasting memory associated with dancing.
She wrote about her sever-year-old memory associated with her dance school's annual concert.
“As a child I remember watching them and being mesmerised,” she said.
“I so wanted to be like them.”
Maddison’s nonna asked her ‘do you think you'll be dancing like them one day?’.
Maddison responded ‘yes, I will be dancing until I die’.
Sam takes Maddison and her two younger sisters to dance classes throughout the week.
Maddison usually dances for about two to three hours each day.
She’s also a high achiever at school and is receiving straight A grades in her first year of high school.
“Maddison is very level headed and organised,” Sam said.
“We are extremely proud of her, she puts a 100 per cent effort into everything she does.”
Sam recalled an incident in 2017 where Maddison hurt her back and couldn't dance for two months.
“It broke her heart,” she said.
“She still attended all the classes and would sit in a corner and watch.”
Sam praised the Suncorp Wish Upon a Ballet Star competition for attracting regional dance students.
“It’s a fantastic initiative to help inspire young dancers,” she said.
