On Saturday February 2 rugby players will return to the grounds for the final carnival in Mount Isa.
Several teams have entered the 7’s competition so far including a team each from the Keas, Cloncurry, Warrigals and Euros clubs.
Mount Isa Rugby Union president Kurt McGregor said it was good to see these clubs supporting MIRU by getting involved.
“Carnivals support MIRU in raising well needed funds for power, grounds-keeping and other general upkeep that keep these players enjoying the sport they love,” Mr McGregor said.
This year local business Dyno Noble has jumped on board to be the naming sponsor of the Summer 7’s competition.
After being in business in Mount Isa for almost 10 years Dyno Noble feel it was very rewarding to support local sporting groups.
Dyno Noble commercial manager Andrew Bassett said it was all about giving back to the community.
“Our business has been supporting community organisations and groups across Australia and we have continued that here in Mount Isa.
“We also have a few colleagues who enjoy rugby and play in the local competition which also adds to the benefit of sponsoring the Mount Isa Rugby Union this year.”
Mr McGregor said it was great to have local businesses willing to help out community sports.
“Without them we wouldn’t be able to put on these carnivals during the year and we really appreciate their support,” he said.
“Come and join us to kick off the second half of our season, we have a bouncy castle for the kids and a cold beverage for the adults, it should be a great night of entertaining football.”
Following the Summer 7’s competition the normal rugby season will continue. After finals the last carnival of the year will be held, being the Cloncurry 10s.
This will take place in Cloncurry on the March 2. Mr McGregor said, it was looking to be a great carnival with teams entering from all over rural QLD.”
