South32 Cannington announced a further $250,000 donation to local communities affected by the recent floods in north Queensland.

The donation will be distributed throughout the Shires of Mckinlay and Cloncurry and follows South32’s $1m donation to the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland's Vinnies North Queensland Flood Appeal in Townsville.
Cannington employees and equipment have also been deployed to support the flood recovery efforts.
Cannington Vice President Operations, Rob Jackson, said the additional funding and in-kind support will help with immediate repairs to local infrastructure.
“Our mine has been an active member of our local community for over two decades an we are here to lend a hand during this time of need.” Mr Jackson said.
“We’re proud to make a difference for those who are affected by this devastating event.”
Mayor of McKinlay Shire, Belinda Murphy, said she was very grateful to South32, not just for the financial help, but also for its employees offering to assist in the community.
“The team at Cannington has large numbers of very skilled staff whose contribution to the flood recovery will be invaluable,” Cr Murphy said.
“The recovery here is going to take a very long time so we will accept all help to ensure that this region gets back to business as usual, sooner rather than later," she said.
Mayor of Cloncurry Shire, Greg Campbell, also thanked South32, explaining how the funds will be utilised within the shire.
“We had a number of roads damaged during the floods that are in urgent need of repair and the donation by South32 can get that started,” Cr Campbell said.
“Without the right infrastructure in place, towns and regions like ours don’t survive. Ensuring we can get road and rail access open is the priority for us in Cloncurry.”
