Now in its fifth year, Queensland Road Safety Week 2019 is being celebrated with events and activities across the state, from 26 to 30 August.
During Queensland Road Safety Week, all Queensland road users are encouraged to put road safety first.
Queensland Road Safety Week is a Queensland Government initiative, delivered in partnership by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) and the Queensland Police Service (QPS).
Join us at the following local events:
Monday 26 -'Buckling up YOUR future'
10am-12pm, in the rear car park of Mount Isa Village.
Mount Isa police and TMR have teamed up with The Baby Shack and QAS to deliver an interactive educational session, designed to dispel myths and assist with selecting the most suitable child restraint for your child.
Knowing which type of child restraint is appropriate and how to use it properly, can be the difference between nil or minor injuries and severe, potentially life threatening injuries.
Tuesday 27 - 'Coffee with A Cop - road safety edition'
10am - 1pm outside of Mount Isa Village, near the Simpson Street pedestrian crossing.
Road safety public information and display. Come down and test out your road safety knowledge or just have a chat with a local officer or TMR rep, over a free cup of coffee from Bambino Espresso.
Tuesday 27 - Road Safety Week Engagement and Educational BBQ
Join local officers for a free BBQ outside of IGA Cloncurry, from 11am - 1pm.
Wednesday 28 - 'Stop Fatigue' Educational and engagement BBQ.
Join local officers for a free BBQ at the Walkabout Creek Hotel, McKinlay from 12-2pm.
Wednesday 28 - Road Safety Week Engagement and Educational BBQ.
Join local officers for a free BBQ outside the Mornington Island Police Station, from 12-2pm.
Friday 30 - 'Bike Muster' Julia Creek from 7.30am-8am.
Bike Muster is a road safety project shared between local police and McKinlay Shire Council, which encourages road safety and practical road awareness, as children ride to school with police and sports and rec officers.
Friday 30 - 'Drink Rite' event at The Buffs Club, 5-7.30pm
Join Mount Isa Road Policing officers to learn more about alcohol consumption, standard drinks and drink driving.
Drink Rite events involve a standard drinks presentation and the participation of a number of patrons, who will have the opportunity to drink alcohol and be breath tested by a police officer.
This event requires a minimum of six participants to go ahead, so please ensure you grab some mates and come down for some important road safety education, in a relaxed and fun setting.
Officers will also be visiting with local schools throughout the week, to promote and educate students on road safety awareness.
