Why the turnaround now with the Youth Camp?
The hypocrisy of this Council knows no bounds. During my term as Mayor 2012 to 2016 and with the help of some of the Service Clubs and others in our Community we re-opened the Lions Youth Camp at Lake Moondarra which had been left deserted for a number of years.

We set up a committee of interested citizens and members of the service clubs under my chairmanship.
We had a family live out there, rent free, who maintained the area and kept it clean and the Chamber of Commerce accepted the bookings.
All at no cost to the ratepayers.
True to the vindictiveness of this Council one of the first actions of the Mayor and her team following their election win in 2016 was to close the Lions Youth Camp down.
No explanation, no reason given.
We know why, it was an initiative of the Tony McGrady Council.
Now with a Council election in the air the Mayor announces that the Camp may be re-opened. Surely the residents of the City are entitled to know what has now changed from a few short years ago when our Mayor closed the camp down. There has been a complete reversal of policy.
They will say that it's all part of the recommendations from a highly paid consultant.
But there are times when you don't need consultants to tell you what the people want.
You simply listen to the people of the City and give them the respect which they are entitled to.

More thoughts on the proposed state of N Qld
Re: 'Handbook Promotes New North Queensland State' (North West Star, September 19).
The KAP and NQ First share a vision for a separate state.
This is more than promising for central and north Queensland.
I'm convinced that there are other major party MPs who see it as possible too, but are not brave enough to advocate; not yet anyway.
Stephen Andrews (MP One nation, Mirani) also supports it even though One Nation has not clearly taken a position on it yet.
And of course at Federal level, there is George Christensen (LNP) and Bob Katter (KAP).
So all in all, there are 5 Regional State MPs (from the 20 that sit in central and north Queensland) and 2 Federal MPs who have shown their cards and vehemently support the creation of a seventh state not only for the benefit of north and central Queensland, but also the nation.
We need to put pressure on the other central and northern MPs to state their position.
It's time for central and northern regional MPs to no longer sit on the fence and engage in the debate.

On our online story about vaping being linked to serious lung disease
Albert Edward Baker What a load of rubbish, I've been vaping for 5 years and my health has never been better. I smoked up to 50 cigarettes a day for 15 years, before switching to vaping I couldn't even run for 2 minutes without losing my breath, now I can and my lungs have improved greatly, the reason for all the hospitalised vaping you're seeing on the news is linked to cannabinoids and vitamin e extract, vaping has been around for 10 years and this is the first time anything like this has happened and more cases it's young people that's have only just started vaping, it doesn't add up. The first vape was actually nvented back in the 80's but never took off as people had no concerns about the health implications of tobacco and they were dirt cheap to buy. Now they're expensive and most people are well aware of the risks they bring, that's why vaping finally took off .
